Cath Lowther steps down as AEP General Secretary

07/01/2025

Cath Lowther has stepped down as General Secretary of the AEP and is returning to direct practice as an Educational Psychologist.

Since taking on the role of General Secretary in February 2023, Cath has been a passionate advocate for the profession and AEP members across all four nations of the UK. As she returns to direct practice as an EP, she remains committed to continuing to advocate on behalf of the profession and striving to improve the lives of children and young people, their families and those who work with them, albeit in a different capacity.

"On behalf of the AEP National Executive Committee, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Cath for her hard work and dedication to the profession. I know you will all join me in wishing Cath all the very best for the future."

David Collingwood - AEP President

The process to elect a new General Secretary will begin shortly. The nominations period will begin on Monday 13 January 2025, for eight weeks, before voting opens on 24 March 2025.

In the meantime, officers of the AEP National Executive Committee and senior members of AEP staff will work to ensure the continued smooth running of business, and to provide ongoing support to members.
