The Association of Educational Psychologists is seeking to appoint an editor for our peer-reviewed journal, Educational Psychology in Practice. The post is self-employed, on a remunerated, consultancy basis. The Editor is responsible for producing a journal of the highest quality and leading the Editorial Board. Becoming the editor of a journal is a rewarding and fulfilling experience, offering the opportunity to build networks, develop and promote the research in educational psychology, and be recognised as a leading figure within the academic community.
The postholder will serve initially in the capacity of ‘Editor Designate’ under the guidance and supervision of the outgoing editor, from June 2025. Thereafter the person appointed will take over full editorial responsibility for the journal for a period of four years (from January 2026). During the final year of this appointment the editor, if appropriate, will be responsible for the induction of the next editor designate to facilitate a smooth transfer of duties.
The Editorial Board meets three times per year in normal circumstances.

The Journal is published internationally, four times per year with each edition containing approximately seven main articles plus book and software reviews (for which there is a separate, elected editor). Approximately 130 new articles are submitted each year for publication.
The Editorial policy of Educational Psychology in Practice is to publish refereed articles representing theory, research and practice which are of relevance to practising educational psychologists in the UK and beyond. Content also includes book and software reviews. In its focus on applied psychology, the journal occupies an important complementary position to those journals that emphasise the experimental work of academic psychologists.
To serve as ‘Editor’ from January 2026 to December 2029
Remuneration on a self-employed, consultancy basis
Applicant will serve as ‘Editor Designate’ on a voluntary basis from June- December 2025
All expenses will be reimbursed
It is anticipated that this role may require a time commitment of up to fifty days per annum. Time commitment will be taken into consideration when negotiating the final terms of agreement for the successful applicant.
